The Skipton Choir – A Concert for Martin House Children’s Hospice
We are thrilled to be celebrating 5 years since our formation with a concert in support of Martin House at the gorgeous Town Hall.
Now 70 strong, we as a choir have gone from strength to strength: performing in and around Skipton, taking part in choral festivals and even recording our first album! All of our members are amateur singers and come together to share in the joy of singing under the direction of David Weale-Davey, always striving to produce concerts of the highest standard.
David, the choir’s musical director, has curated a concert which will showcase the varied, energetic repertoire of music the choir has been working on this year. He has a real passion for bringing the best out of the choir and telling the story of each song. This concert will encompass Broadway showstoppers, folk classics and pop hits. You can expect a range of exciting music, including: Fields of Gold, Sit Down You’re Rocking the Boat, and What shall we do with the drunken sailor?
As a community choir, we are particularly proud to be able to use the power of music to support local charities and causes. This year we have chosen to support Martin House Children’s Hospice. Martin House provides a lifeline to so many families. Their current project THE BUILD will transform the hospice, so they can meet the ever changing and complex care needs of the children who need them, allowing families in Yorkshire to continue to use the hospice free of charge. Martin House is a charity which we have supported throughout our time together and we are once again eager to support their incredible ongoing work.
You can read about their project here:
For the first time, the choir will be joined by special guests The Tenmours, a local band who have forged a strong following through years of busking original music on UK streets. In recent years they have toured and performed at a number of prestigious events. They continue to collaborate on enriching their local creative communities. In 2023 they were the UK national finalists at The European Music Contest in San Marino with their latest single ‘We Are Listening’ – which they will be performing alongside the choir at this concert.
