Pinsuti Chamber Choir presents: “Alleluia!”
For our summer concert, Pinsuti will be performing an uplifting collection of celebratory and reflective music. We will sing several works a cappella, but some will have organ and brass accompaniment, all in the wonderful acoustic of Christ Church.
Our sacred and secular programme ranges from the 17th century to contemporary composers. Earlier works include Gibbons’ “Great King of Gods”, written for the only return visit of James I to Scotland in 1617; Handel’s well-known coronation anthem “Zadok the Priest”; richly-woven sacred motets by Bruckner and Stanford, and Bairstow’s dramatic anthem “Let all Mortal Flesh Keep Silence”.
Our modern pieces are mainly reflective and a cappella: John Tavener’s “Song for Athene” – ‘Alleluia. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest’; settings of “Alleluia” by Stephen Paulus and Eric Whitacre; and Frank Ticheli’s “Earth Song”, which is a cry for peace through the blessing of music. In contrast, Whitacre’s “Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine” is operatic in style – a vivid and exciting piece of word-painting, imagining Leonardo’s dream…
We look forward to sharing this enjoyable evening with you.
